PURPOSE
This program is
designed to prepare students for a career in the dog training
field, as a group obedience class instructor.
Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:

read and
interpret body language
·
teach basic
obedience skills to dogs of all ages and sizes
·
verbally
instruct students
·
physically
demonstrate how to teach basic obedience skills
·
understand
and solve simple behavior problems
·
understand
how dog’s learn
·
understand
different ways to teach behaviors
·
know how to
work with people of differing backgrounds and experience levels
·
become a
competent group class instructor
DETAILS
·
Basic
Group Class Assistance (75 hours):
Students will assist head trainer with Basic Manners and
Puppy Kindergarten classes, through observation, note taking,
one-on-one assistance with students, classroom preparation,
paperwork, verbal instruction, and physical demonstration.
Students start by just observing classes, then move on to
verbal instruction and physical demonstrations as they become more
comfortable.

Private
Lesson Assistance (15 hours):
Students will assist head trainer with private, in-home
lessons, through observation and note taking.
This prepares the student to be able to access and correct
behavior problems.

Advanced
Group Class Assistance (10 hours):
Students will assist with upper level classes, through
observation and note taking.
·
Written
Testing (1 hour):
Upon the completion of the 100 hours of training, students
will be required to pass a written test.
·
Hands-On
Testing (1 hour):
Upon the completion of the 100 hours of training, students
will be required to demonstrate their skills as a dog trainer.
·
Required
Reading:
Student must read three required texts, and choose 2
additional texts from a list of reading material.
Student will discuss each book with the head trainer.
TIME
FRAME
This
program could take as little as six months to complete, and as
long as one year, depending on your level of commitment.
Students must participate in at least one group class per
week, with a maximum of four classes per week.
Typically, students will spend an average of 4-8 hours per
week on study sessions, reading, observation, and practical
application.
EMPLOYMENT
Priority
will be given to apprenticeship students who would like to become
paid employees of Pick of the Litter Dog Training upon completion
of the apprentice program.
COST
The
total cost of the program is $750, paid in advance.
This fee is non refundable.
Fee is applied towards one-on-one time with the head
trainer, testing material, group class and private lesson
assistance.
